Translate whole games faster with your own proxies (Pro)
RuneTranslate Pro routes the free translators (Google, DeepL) through your own proxies, so a per-IP rate limit no longer caps a whole-game run. Paste your proxies, test them, and requests spread across them automatically — a rate-limited IP steps aside on its own. Bring your own proxies, stored encrypted on your PC; off by default.
The free translators are the fastest way to get a whole game into your language for nothing — but they don't count requests per account, they count them per IP address. Push a few thousand lines through Google Translate or free DeepL from one home connection and you hit the limit: the run crawls, then stalls with rate-limit errors. There's only so much one address is allowed to ask for.
Proxieslift that ceiling. It's a Pro feature that sends your translation requests through your own proxies, so the work is spread over many IP addresses instead of one. No single address gets anywhere near its limit, and a whole-game run keeps moving. It's off until you turn it on, and only the free translators use it by default.
One IP, one rate limit
Google Translate's free endpoint and free DeepL both throttle by address. From a single IP you get a fixed budget — fine for a menu or a short scene, painful for a 20,000-line RPG. Adding proxies doesn't make one address tolerate more; it gives you more addresses, and the per-IP budget is what actually multiplies. Ten working proxies is roughly ten times the free-translator throughput, without touching how hard any single address is pushed.
How it works
- Paste your proxiesinto Settings → Proxies. HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS4/5 are all supported, in either the
scheme://user:pass@host:portor thehost:port:user:passlayout your provider hands out. - Test them. One click checks all of them at once and shows each proxy's latency and its real exit IP — the quickest proof they work and that they're genuinely different addresses.
- Rotation is automatic.During a run, requests spread across your healthy proxies. You don't assign anything by hand.
- A rate-limited proxy steps aside. If an address starts getting throttled, it's put on a short cooldown and skipped until it recovers, so one bad IP never poisons the run. A big list mostly serves as reserve depth for exactly this.
- You can see it working. While a project translates, a small “via N proxies” indicator shows how many are in use and how many are cooling down.
Bring your own — nothing is shared
RuneTranslate never supplies proxies. You use ones you already have or rent from a provider you trust, and your list is stored encrypted on your own PC— the passwords are never shown again and never leave your machine. Only translation requests are routed through a proxy; signing in, updates, and translation memory always use your normal connection. And it's off by default— a Pro user has to deliberately add proxies and switch rotation on.
Set it up
- Go Pro, then open Settings → Proxies.
- Paste your proxy list and press Test all.
- Turn rotation on with the master switch.
- Leave the free translators selected (they're the ones that benefit), or tick others if you have a reason to.
- Translate a project as usual — that's it.
What it does — and doesn't — help
- Helps the free translators. Google Translate and free DeepL are limited per IP, so rotating them is what raises your speed.
- Keyed APIs are different. OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek and a paid DeepL key are limited per key, not per IP, so a proxy won't raise their limit — though it can get you past a service that's blocked in your region. You choose per provider.
- Your local model is never proxied. It runs on your own PC, so a remote proxy can't — and shouldn't — reach it.
- It fails safe.If every proxy is unavailable, a run stops with a clear message rather than quietly falling back to your own IP — the address that was probably just rate-limited. You can opt into a direct fallback if you'd rather the run finish.
Use it responsibly
The free endpoints are unofficial and their operators set the rules; proxies let you translate a big game without hammering one address, which is the neighbourly way to use them. For truly large jobs the official keyed providers (a DeepL API key gives 500k characters a month free, and DeepSeek costs a few cents a game) are still the most dependable path. Proxies are the free lane made practical for whole games — on your own addresses, at your own pace.
